In late 1984 the heads of Disney's theme park division, Dick Nunis and Jim Cora, presented a list of approximately 1200 possible European locations for the park.īy March 1985, the number of possible locations for the park had been reduced to four two in France and two in Spain. Cardon Walker, Tokyo Disneyland opened in 1983 in Japan with instant success, forming a catalyst for European expansion. 1.4 Financial, attendance, and employment problemsįollowing the success of Disneyland in Anaheim, California and Walt Disney World in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, plans to build a similar theme park in Europe emerged as early as 1972.1.1.2 Hotels, recreation, and restaurants.A second theme park, Walt Disney Studios Park, opened its doors on March 16, 2002. In July 1995, the company saw its first quarterly profit. From March 2002 to April 2009, the resort was named Disneyland Resort Paris, before reverting back to Disneyland Paris. In an effort to improve its public image, the complex was renamed from Euro Disney Resort to Disneyland Paris in October 1994. A further setback followed the opening of the resort as park attendance, hotel occupancy, and revenues fell below projections. The complex was a subject of controversy during the periods of negotiation and construction, when a number of prominent French figures voiced their opposition and protests were held by French labour unions and others. With 14.5 million visitors in the fiscal year of 2007, it is one of Europe's leading tourist destinations.ĭisneyland Paris was owned and operated by French company Euro Disney S.C.A., a public company of which 39.78% of its stock was held by the Walt Disney Company, 10% by the Saudi Prince Alwaleed and 50.22% by other shareholders, before the Walt Disney Company took full control in June 2017. Operating since April 12, 1992, it was the second Disney resort to open outside the United States (following Tokyo Disney Resort), and the first to be owned and operated solely by The Walt Disney Company. The entire Disneyland Paris complex features two theme parks, an entertainment district, six Disney-owned hotels and two self-catering resorts. The complex is located 32 kilometers (20 miles) from the center of Paris and lies mainly on the territory of the commune of Chessy. Please don’t get me wrong: the European Pirates of the Caribbean is fantastic, but it really didn’t need Jack Sparrow and company, imho.Disneyland Paris is a vacation and entertainment resort in Marne-la-Vallée, a new town in the eastern suburbs of Paris. I understand that the general public adores these recognizable characters, but the authentic charm of this dark ride was partly lost due to these changes. I’m not opposed to this change, but I wouldn’t call it a huge improvement either. Disney Parks & Resorts gave this concept a new impulse by adding film characters to the attraction. This dark ride has been a Disney classic since the original version opened in 1967 and its popularity remained unchanged ever since. The latter is home to Pirates of the Caribbean, European style. The most brilliant dark rides have been placed in Frontierland and Adventureland, though. The park offers the classic series of Fantasyland dark rides (including a stunning version of It’s a Small World) and Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast seems to be even more popular than at other resorts. Trip reports and photos from theme parks across the globeĭark ride lovers are spoiled at Disneyland Paris.
